Chance J. Feldstein

Chance J. Feldstein (they/them) is an internationally known TTRPG and LARP designer,
interfaith pastoral counselor, and interdisciplinary artist, with 27 years of experience in Jewish
magic, chaos magic, and eclectic paganism. They have a life-long special interest in religion,
mythology, folklore, and the occult. Chance’s undergraduate training is in psychology, with a
focus in neurodiversity and psychynamic thought, from the California Institute of Integral
Studies. They hold a graduate certificate in transformative game design from Uppsala
University, the first program of its kind in the world, which has since been expanded into a
master’s degree. Chance had already been studying and practicing narrative alchemy and
sacred play for around 20 years, when they entered the certificate program to fill in gaps in their
knowledge.
Chance’s game Garden of Pathos, a non-verbal LARP about Baba Yaga’s greenhouse,
incorporating body movement and arts & crafts, received an Honorable Mention from the
Golden Cobra Challenge in 2019. They have co-written eight books for Vampire: the
Masquerade, Mind’s Eye Theatre, and Mage: the Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition, and their
first Kickstarter game is expected to be ready by late 2025 or early 2026. Chance is currently
writing a book entitled Narrative Alchemy & Sacred Play, planned to have an academic version
with theory, and a practical version with role-playing and game-mastering tipe.
To traditionalists who say chaos magic is / was nothing more than LARPing, Chance’s response
is: “That’s not a bug, it’s a feature”. Play is sacred to them because it enables humans – all
mammals, really – to learn and evolve while having fun; sometimes, enough fun that we don’t
notice the growth and learning until much later. As Oscar Wilde once said, “Man is least himself
when he talks in his own person; give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” Chance is
excited to present their games and theories to the public, for the first time outside a gaming
convention.

David Shi is a traditional shamanic worker and folk magic practitioner who primarily engages in ancestral North Asian forms of shamanism. Recognized as a sagaasha/ongodtengertei, a future shaman prior to initiation, among both Mongolian and Korean shamans, David’s practices are deeply rooted in spirit work in which ancestral and land spirits are called to empower all workings. David’s readings incorporate a combination of Tarot, Bones, Jaw-harp, as well as Mongolian stone divination (known as Kumalak in Turkic Central Asia).

He is a member of the Well& Forge Coven, of the Temple of the Hallowed Gods and a member of the Blackthorn Traditionof Witchcraft. He began his journey to paganism as a curious teen, hooked by his love ofmythology and intrigued by the mysteries. He has begun teaching because he feels stronglyabout creating spiritually safe spaces, especially inclusion and affirmation for gender diversepeople. He is so grateful to have found paganism in his youth, it is truly the most welcoming andforward thinking of communities. He noticed throughout his journey that his gender sometimesfit awkwardly into the magick he was learning. He had to unwind a Gordian Knot of culturalmessaging, oppressive systems and prejudices in order to find the true treasures of paganism.“Know Thyself”, “All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals”, “Bodies I have in mind, and howthey can change to assume new shapes.” These words and more helped him find his way. Hehopes that presenting and educating on gender will help make the path easier for others.

Jane Sibley

Jane T. Sibley, one of the founders of CTCW, also created the New England Conference on Mithraic Studies (Mithracon). Jane and Tchipakkan met in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval recreation group, where Jane’s persona is that of a Norsewoman from the pre-Viking period, Arwen Evaine ferch Rhys ap Gwynedd. That was where Jane created Auntie Arwen’s Spices, where she sells herbs and herb mixes both culinary and healing. If you can’t wait until the conference check them out on-line. In the SCA she worked with Lois Fitzpatrick in the Soothsayer’s Guild, being awarded the Order of the Laurel for historical divination. Among the techniques she shared in this medievalist group were reading runes, casting seeds, and her work in utiseta (oracular seidhr).

She was taught a lot of this by her Norwegian grandmother, and, being an historian, is hesitant to claim that these techniques go back farther than can be documented; however, these are traditional techniques, and really work. Jane passes them along outside the family because they shouldn’t be lost, and none of the next generation has shown interest. Among these techniques is the very intense Norseworking healing ritual, which she’s done for a few years. (If you come, be sure you know how to ground your energy!)

Jane earned her doctoral degree in History/Comparative Religion, focusing on the Indo-European thunder/lightning god from antiquity into modern times. As with much of CTCW, she combines mind and spirit, history and science (She has even worked with an electron microscope!), healing, divination, myth and humor, each informing our understanding of the others. Her books are: “Norse Mythology…According to Uncle Einar”, “The Hammer of the Smith”, “The Divine Thunderbolt: Missile of the Gods”, “A Different Dragon” and The Way of the Wise (Traditional Norse Folk Medicine and Magic.)
