You need to ask for help

Posted on Updated on

Asking for help is hard for some of us, but whether you need help from a person, or from the Universe, you need to actually ask for help if you need it. We are familiar with praying for help, but sometimes we don’t do it. We may not feel worthy of help, someone else needs it more, or sometimes we just don’t think of it, we don’t want to create a debt we can’t pay…. There are reasons we don’t ask for help, but we should make sure that the reasons are good, not simply ‘programmed’ by some training in our past that isn’t valid anymore.

Unless we are talking about little babies, most people are hesitant to step in and do something you may want to do for yourself, to ‘steal’ your autonomy. (Others are happy to do it and don’t even think about it.) Chances are that you would prefer to help yourself in most instances. But sometimes, even if you can manage whatever you are doing by yourself, it’s simply more efficient and effective to ask for help. There is no shame it recognizing that somethings will be done faster, or better with more than one working on it. Sometimes others have resources, tools, abilities, or information you don’t have (non-humans often are in this category). With humans there’s a lot of variation in how readily an individual will jump to help another, dictated by their personality and upbringing. It’s easier to know what to expect if you speak the same language, and share cultural expectations.

In metaphysics, there seems to be some mechanism in place to reduce interaction between “planes”. Over the years many of us have seen that gods, spirits, the Universe… whatever is out there, actually requires someone asking before they are able to give you the help you need. It seems to be a natural law that They (whoever they are) can’t intervene until we actually ask for help. Sometimes we can feel them waiting to jump in with a tweak to your luck, or the weather, or a psychic piece of information you need. But it doesn’t happen until you actually ASK. Let them help you.

This week I’ll be talking about the Swedish Tomte, the Danish and Norse Nisse, the Icelandic Yul Lads, English Brownies, and other spirits associated with the winter Solstice holidays. They are generally small, from a few inches to a few feet tall, often with conical or knit caps in red or some other bright color, and look a bit like garden gnomes. Nisse gained popularity during the romantic era and are popular Christmas decorations- along with amanita muscara mushrooms!
These spirits seem to partake both of the ancestral spirit as well as the house or land spirit, and are protective of those whose space and family they share. There are also many tales showing that one shouldn’t disrespect or take the Nisse lightly- for instance the story of the year the farmwife buried the butter in the Christmas porridge, and when the brownie thought he’d been stiffed, he killed the cow. When he ate the porridge, he discovered his mistake and switched the dead cow with a neighbor’s live one. Generally they protected the livestock and often seen with the farm cat.

The Yul Lads (and their mother’s cat) were less benevolent (Mom and the cat were known to eat naughty children) but have been made more safe for company in the modern world. But… I’ll be talking more about these stories on Wednesday and I’d love to have you to call in with questions or stories of your own: 619-639-4606 (live only).

If you can’t make the live show 8-9- and have a question or comment, please feel free to write me a message and I’ll read it on the air.

Importance of Ancestors with AVee Baron

Posted on Updated on

If you missed the live show, it’s archived here: http://tobtr.com/s/10314023

We’ll be talking about Ancestors. Most cultures have some version of ancestor veneration, where the spirits of their beloved dead aid them in their lives. Even modern folk sometimes feel in touch with our relatives. Mediums and Spiritualists assure us that they watch over us and tweak reality to help us as they can. As with most forms of mind-to-mind (soul-to-soul) contact, frequent interaction makes it easier to communicate. Rituals, offerings, keeping an altar all help, and this time of year (approaching Samhain/Halloween) is one where many feel closest to their ancestors.

This year at the Changing Times-Changing Worlds conference, my guest AVee Baron will be running an Ancestor Ritual (as well as teaching Cartomancy).

AVee is a pagan who has practiced new age, Buddhism, Wicca and Witchcraft. She’s a Reverend in the Correllian Tradition, speaks and teache on many subjects, and owns Witchy Spellz N Wares occult online shop in Connecticut. She also has several other pages and web sites for different purposes.

12-21-16 Shadows of things that will be, or that may be?

Posted on

Please join Tchipakkan on the New Normal 8 pm Wednesday, 12-21-16, 8-9 p.m. est.

In Dicken’s Christmas Carol Scrooge (and the audience) is taught by spirits or ghosts. One of the questions Scrooge asks is “Answer me one more question. Are these the shadows of things that *will* be, or are they the shadows of things that *may* be only?” (and the spirit only points to his gravestone). Interesting that the spirit of the future remains silent isn’t it?

This is one of the core questions any time we discuss divination or looking into the future, whether by astrology, visions or any other means. If it doesn’t happen, does that mean you blew the reading, and if it is pre-destined and you can’t escape it, why bother?

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead,” said Scrooge. “But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me.”

This is the point of this podcast (and if you already understand that, don’t bother listening, get on with your Solstice celebrations). If you’d like to join the discussion about the purpose of divination, and how we use it, please call in with questions or comments: 619-639-4606
