Underlying Principles of Divination

New Years, being liminal time is a big night for divination, and I’ve been thinking about the many techniques and methods of divination since then, and the underlying principals that “explain” how they work. (And isn’t that what we’re trying to do?

Some forms of divination carry messages from otherworldly beings- gods, ancestors, angels, guides and totems, Others put you in contact with your inner self (or selves), your higher self, or your subconscious, either of which may be thought to have access to awareness that our conscious self suppresses. Other forms of divination are simply ways of observing patterns in the world, similar to techniques used for medical diagnosis, or predicting the weather.

This week I have no guest, but will be rambling on about these techniques and principles, although I’d love to hear from other practitioners. Please call and share your perspective, and experiences, whether you read cards or palms, do psychometry or scrying, or pass on information from friends on the “other side”.

I also plan to talk a little about learning some of these systems, so if you want to share advice on what books or systems you’d recommend to beginners, do join me!

Shell Divination on the New Normal

Posted on Updated on

Podcast- December 30, 8 pm est shell divination

This week Tchipakkan will be talking to Charles Butler Neto. Charles is an esoteric teacher trained in Christianity, Wicca, Santeria, and Umbanda.
“I read dillogun (Santeria), Tarot, and some palms. I am a theologian and writer by trade. I am attending school at Howard University School of Divinity and work with Rising Sun Outreach Ministry. a chaplaincy corps reaching out to caregivers. I have been a chaplain working with the Federal prison system, working as a religious services contractor with FCI Cumberland, FP Hazelton, and the Secure Female Facility at Hazelton. I sing with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington. I am a composer, a playwright, an author, a storyteller, a critic, a proofreader, an editor, a mystic, a poet, and a few other things.”
While usually it is women who do the shell reading, Baba Charles has shown a surprising facility in this practice and will be coming on to talk about it to us. Umbanda and Candomble recognize that gay men and trans-people have a special gift for working with shells and welcome them into their circles.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday the 23rd this conversation has been continued to December 30th, so wCharles-Butler2007e can go more deeply into this fascinating system. I’d also like to talk to Charles more about his work with pagans in Prisons. (He was able to give us an overview for 20 minutes, you can listen to here.)

Discussion of Tribal communities on the New Normal

Posted on

Please join Tchipakkan on the New Normal 8 pm Wednesday, 11-25-15, 8-9 p.m. est.
There’s a joke that it’s good to have an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out. Tonight we’ll be talking about the difference between not refusing to believe the evidence in front of your eyes, and believing everything that supports your argument.spirit photography

We’ll also talk about the way we manage to alienate each other by disparaging other groups and how this “tribal” aspect of various communities has held back progress because you can’t learn useful and valuable information and techniques from someone you’ve disrespected.

Please join this conversation by calling in 619-639-4606  We’d love to hear your experiences.

“I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud.” – C.G.Jung
“A long time ago a bunch of people reached a general consensus as to what’s real and what’s not and most of us have been going along with it ever since.” – Charles de Lint
“In the future, it [will be] deemed a great oddity that 20th-century scientists had discovered elementary physical particles but had failed even to consider the possibility of elementary psychic factors.” – KURT GÖDEL
“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.― Søren Kierkegaard

Wonderful Concerts!

Posted on Updated on

We had wonderful concerts this weekend. Friday night Katie and Christ LaFond played flute, harp and guitar. They are shown here with Tchipakkan (co-chair). Below Jane (or other co-chair) poses with Kelliana and  Jenna Green who sang and played for us on Saturday evening, and between them Sarah Trow, the winner of the free concert tickets on Facebook. Both concerts ran long, so we are feeling especially lucky and grateful to our wonderful artists!
